Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
I am out-of-network with insurance providers. This means full cost is obtained at the time of service. I recognize that the time and financial cost of a psychological assessment is considered an investment in your child's academic success. You can submit a "receipt" to your insurance company for reimbursement to the policy holder.
How long does each testing session take?
The length of the evaluation can vary depending on what each child needs. Generally speaking, you and your child are going to invest at least two to three hours of your time for the administration of the testing. Additional time will be needed initially to obtain the relevant background information, and then finally provide feedback.
Is there a minimum age for testing?
There is no minimum or maximum age for any learning or cognitive evaluation. Each case will be discussed in order to determine if testing is needed for your child.
What should I tell my child about the evaluation?
I believe that it is important to be honest with your child, especially when they will be meeting with a doctor for an extended period of time. It is important to let them know that they will be doing several activities, including looking at puzzles, making pictures with blocks, and some activities similar to what they do in school. I believe that the goal of testing is to determine areas of strengths and weaknesses so that the child can ultimately feel and perform better at school. Therefore, it is important for children to know that there will be some activities that are easy and some that will get more difficult. They should understand that it is okay to not get everything correct.
Can you contact my child's school or other professionals? Privacy?
It is very important to maintain privacy for you and your child. I am more than happy to speak with your child's teacher, tutor, and/or special education professional with a signed release of information. It is important for you to know that I will only share information that is appropriate and necessary for the evaluation. Everything that you share with me will remain confidential unless you give me permission.
What does "in-home testing" mean?
I am more than happy to come to you and test your child in your home. If you opt for me to come to your home, please have a space in which your child will be free from distractions (television, pets, siblings, toys) and where they can have privacy. Please also know that an additional fee will be added to the cost of testing for this service.
